Supporting Future Leaders

The A.J. Fletcher Foundation offers the Fletcher Fellowship, a two-year, paid fellowship that is structured to fulfill the current interests of the organization while supporting the personal development of the fellow. The Fletcher Fellow works closely with staff and partner organizations to support efforts in communications, grants management, research, and planning.

Our current Fletcher Fellow is Sloan Edemann. You can learn more about her here.

In the late 1970’s, the Fletcher family endowed a gift that started the Fletcher Scholars Program at the School of Law. The scholarship, given to one student each year, covers their full tuition program and provides support for summer experiences. Alumni have distinguished themselves in the profession and have gone on to work in a variety of places from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Universal Studios, and the North Carolina Department of Justice.

In 2001, the A.J. Fletcher Foundation and the UNC School of the Arts created the A.J. Fletcher Opera Institute which houses 12 Fletcher Fellows in graduate and post-graduate degree programs. These talented artists go on to perform at some of the most prestigious venues in the world.

The Fletcher Fellowship for Education Policy Reporting is a two-year post-graduate fellowship at WUNC, Raleigh’s NPR member station. The fellowship provides a recent UNC Hussman School graduate with an opportunity to work on in-depth reporting of under-covered education issues in North Carolina while also serving as a model for advanced training to develop recent journalism graduates into thoughtful reporters for our community.
