Fletcher Executive Fellow
Sloan Edemann is driven by a deep commitment to North Carolina and the people who call it home. She is energized by helping communities thrive, connecting people and ideas, and creating the conditions for others to succeed. She is a proud member of the Lumbee Tribe and a product of Iredell-Statesville public schools.
Sloan’s passion lies in helping people, from research and advocacy for maternal and reproductive health to housing and homelessness in her more recent work. At the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, she completed the inaugural accelerated Master of Public Policy program, focusing her graduate project with the Male Contraceptive Initiative on improving indirect legislative advocacy for equitable reproductive health options. She also co-chaired Linking Immigrants to New Communities, teaching English to recent immigrants and connecting them to resources in their communities.
Before joining AJF, Sloan worked with FHI 360’s Reproductive, Maternal, Child, and Newborn Health Division on USAID-funded efforts in Mozambique, Zimbabwe, and Uganda. These experiences strengthened her belief that meaningful change comes from community partnerships, curiosity, and a willingness to listen.
As the Fletcher Executive Fellow, Sloan leads research efforts and supports grants strategy, community engagement, and the Fletcher Fellowship program. She especially loves the relational side of the work, connecting with nonprofit leaders, learning alongside peers, and strengthening networks that benefit North Carolina communities. Outside the office, Sloan can be found running, singing, or lost in a new book. She lives in Raleigh with her partner and their cat, Tchaikovsky.
